The Brief
To design, supply, and install a protective netting solution across multiple atriums within a live shopping centre, mitigating the risk of falling debris caused by gull activity and ensuring public safety at all times.
The Challenge
The project involved working within a fully operational shopping centre, requiring careful coordination to protect the public and maintain uninterrupted trading. Access constraints and logistics added complexity, with all materials needing to be delivered to upper car park levels before installation could commence.
The scale of the works was significant, covering three atriums and approximately 2,700m² of high-level protection.
Our Solution
We delivered a full design, supply, and installation package, installing a 19mm netting mesh system specifically engineered to prevent stones dropped by gulls from entering public areas below.
Rope access techniques allowed our team to work efficiently at height while minimising disruption and avoiding the need for extensive temporary access systems. All works were carefully phased and coordinated to maintain safety within the live environment.
The Result
The project was completed safely, efficiently, and to programme, providing a long-term protective solution across all atrium areas. The client was highly satisfied with the outcome, with enhanced public safety achieved without disruption to day-to-day shopping centre operations.
Client Feedback
“High Torque Rope Access delivered an efficient and well-managed solution under challenging site conditions. Their rope access approach significantly reduced disruption to our operations, and their safety standards and communication throughout the project were excellent. We were particularly impressed with the quality of workmanship and the speed of delivery.”
